| Customer Reviews: Heavy, clunky, dumb August 9, 2009 Karmic Refugee (Warren, PA United States) Perhaps it is a mistake to try to find a watch that is both active and attractive, and this watch would only prove that point. Don't be fooled by this watch's hi-tech design.
It is far heavier than it seems to need to be, kind of defeating the purpose of having something you WANT to grab for field convenience and packability. Unless of course what you really need is not a watch but a hammer. There is an amazing amount of heft and useless material, as far as I can see.
I travel a lot and thought that with this compass/watch/flashlight/pocket combination was sure to be a really great fit for me. Not. The dual digital/analog watch both seem to keep time, and the backlight is really quite good (though, aggravatingly enough, you must always turn on the flashlight if even for a split second, to engage the backlight function).
The problems start just by wearing it. Clipped to a belt-loop it invites damage to car doors, chairs, and itself (not being long enough to then also tuck into a pocket while attached), and when it is in your pocket unclipped, it tends to weigh down the pocket too much and probably engages the battery-driven light as well. [I have had the watch about a month now, and within two weeks of simply owning it, one of the batteries died (it has one for the LED flashlight and digital watch, one for the analog). I had to drive thirty miles to the nearest watch repair shop to have it replaced (this watch is NOT field -or home- replaceable). Now, just two weeks later, the other battery has died. Grrr. I see in my near future another 1-1/2 hours trip to spend another $15 on this damnable watch.] Like it didn't have enough problems, the compass is practically inoperable as it does not rotate freely at all, and moves only toward north reluctantly if you can figure out how to hold it absolutely parallel to the earth. The flashlight is OK, though I have a far smaller LED light on my keychain that cost only two dollars and works far better. The function buttons are painful to operate. All in all, its promise of beauty and functionality is swallowed up by poor reality. Save the money and buy a flashlight, compass and watch separately. Wish I could get my money back.

Very lovely watch. It's a nice gift piece. Looks a lot nicer in real life.
